Project Background
A mountain village in Sichuan needed to irrigate farmland from a river valley 300 metres below the fields – far beyond the reach of the utility grid. In 2023 the village commissioned a 200 kW solar pumping station to replace the idea of hauling diesel up mountain roads.
The Challenge
The pump had to lift water 300 metres of head through sunny hours only, with no grid and no practical fuel supply. The motors demanded high starting torque, and the remote mountain location ruled out regular maintenance visits or complex battery systems.
Our Solution
We engineered a batteryless 200 kW off-grid pumping station: a TOPCon array powers high-head centrifugal pumps directly through a dedicated pump inverter, while our three-phase IGBT inverters provide the rugged, surge-capable drive the motors need. Water is lifted to a hillside reservoir that gravity-feeds the fields on demand – the reservoir itself is the storage.
Results & Benefits
- Hundreds of mu of farmland irrigated without a single litre of diesel since commissioning.
- Zero battery cost – water storage replaces electrical storage, minimizing maintenance.
- Unattended operation – the station starts and stops with the sun, no operator required.
- Water on demand – reservoir gravity feed matches irrigation to the growing calendar, with seasonal tilt adjustment sustaining output.
