Project Background
A homeowner in rural Japan chose energy independence for a traditional wooden house, installing a compact 2 kW off-grid system in 2023. Beyond daily savings, the household wanted resilience against the outages that follow Japan’s typhoons and earthquakes.
The Challenge
Japanese conditions demanded attention to detail: snow-load-rated mounting for winter, surge protection for typhoon-season lightning, and quiet, fan-less operation appropriate for a residential neighbourhood. Space in a traditional house is limited, so the equipment footprint had to stay small and tidy.
Our Solution
We paired high-efficiency N-type panels with a wall-mounted hybrid inverter and a LiFePO4 battery bank sized for overnight autonomy. The compact wall-mounted battery and inverter keep the utility room tidy, the mounting is engineered for local snow loads, and DC surge protection guards the electronics through storm season.
Results & Benefits
- Most of the year fully solar – lighting, appliances and air conditioning run on sunshine.
- Silent operation – fan-less equipment disturbs neither the household nor the neighbourhood.
- Disaster resilience – the house keeps power through post-typhoon outages, with grid retained only as backup.
- A repeatable template we now offer to off-grid and resilience buyers across Japan.
